Biography of Nils Wedel:
The artist is known for his Cubist style paintings and lithographs. He developed his own form of Cubism and Surrealism, influenced by Fernand Léger and the Surrealists' dreamlike imagery.
Wedel studied at the Académie Moderne in Paris in 1921-22, his teacher was Othon Friesz who was associated with the Fauvist movement. Wedel created several well-known public works in Sweden and is represented in the Swedish National Museum.
"When I came to France as a very young man after the First World War and encountered Cubism, it was the greatest experience of my life. I was completely bewitched, and it remains the most significant event of my existence." (Nils Wedel, interview in the newspaper Arbetet, May 1946)
