An original oil painting on wooden panel by Vernon Blake, British artist 1875-1930 "In Egypt" scene of two Egyptian women … Read more An original oil painting on wooden panel by Vernon Blake, British artist 1875-1930 "In Egypt" scene of two Egyptian women dressed in black clothing in the foreground carrying goods on their heads, a second group is in the middle ground, palm trees and bushes to the left and into the background, 6" x 9 3/4", unsigned to the front, inscribed on the reverse is the title and signature as well as Arabic (?) script. CA number 3979, CA purchased summer of 2025 from a regional British auction house. There is a 2 1/2" slight fissure in the top left front section of the wooden panel. The painting has been cleaned and varnished. This work was probably executed between 1890 1nd 1895.
It has been reframed in 2 3/8" original Abe Munn distressed, antiqued aged rough wood reverse with antiqued gold lip moulding.
Blake was a painter, sculptor and teacher as well as being a cyclist. He travelled to France, Italy, the mid east and the far east. He studied in Paris, Florence and at the Slade School, London. He taught at The British Academy of Arts, Rome and in 1907 was the director. From 1908-9 his address is listed as London. He exhibited at The London Salon. See less
