Fernando Botero (Colombian, 1932–2023)
Una Famiglia I – Original Exhibition Poster, 1991
This original exhibition poster, published in Italy in 1991 on the occasion of Fernando Botero’s celebrated Rome exhibition, features the iconic oil on canvas Una Famiglia I. In this work, Botero presents a monumental family group, rendered in his instantly recognizable style of exaggerated volumes and harmonious curves. Each figure—mother, father, children, and even the family dog—bears Botero’s signature sense of inflated form, imbuing the scene with both humor and gravitas.
Far from caricature, Botero’s treatment elevates the ordinary into the monumental, transforming domestic life into a timeless tableau that is at once satirical, tender, and deeply human. The luminous colors, serene expressions, and the symbolic fruit-laden tree in the background enrich the composition with layers of cultural and allegorical meaning.
As an exhibition piece, this poster not only commemorates Botero’s pivotal 1991 Roman show but also embodies the enduring appeal of his “Boterismo,” a style that redefined figuration in modern art and made him one of the most distinctive and beloved voices of 20th-century Latin American painting.
The poster is finely presented in custom gilt frame.
