"Double Entendre (TwoFaceNote)" Satirical Currency Collage
Elaborate collage by Mickey "Kano" Kane (American, 20th century). This piece is a satirical mixed media artwork that mimics a U.S. banknote to critique capitalism, identity, and the commodification of culture. At its center, mirrored and distorted figures reflect themes of duplicity and mass reproduction, framed by ornate currency motifs and surrounded by repeating "B" seals. Bold text—“DOUBLE ENTENDRE (TWOFACENOTE)”—highlights the dual meaning and artificial value in both art and money. A grayscale figure at the bottom, connected by crimson ribbons, adds emotional weight and underscores the human cost beneath systems of power. The piece cleverly blurs the line between economic authority and artistic commentary.
Dated "1993" in the lower left corner.
Signed "Kano" in the lower right corner.
Presented in a new warm beige mat.
Mat size: 20"H x 28"W
