The artist, Francois-Simon-Alphonse Giroux (6 April 1776, Paris - 1 May 1848, Paris), was a French art restorer and ebeniste. He studied painting under Jacques-Louis David, and founded an art restoration business near the end of the 18th century.
The French Empire style (1804-1830) was a neoclassic movement that reflected the power and grandeur of ancient Rome and Greece, often incorporating imperial motifs like eagles and laurel leaves. Mirrors and candelabra from this period were considered luxury items and were typically made by skilled artisans.
