This striking vintage Japanese vase showcases bold sculptural texture and flowing glaze work, echoing the artistry of Awaji pottery. Though unmarked by maker, it bears a “Made in Japan” stamp and is offered as “in the style of Awaji,” known for its richly glazed surfaces and dynamic relief designs.
The vase stands approximately 9 inches tall with an 8 1/4 inch diameter at its widest and a 4 3/4 inch mouth opening. Weighing over 6 pounds, it has a commanding presence and tactile appeal. The reddish-brown clay body is adorned with high-relief carving and a glossy overglaze in white, with hints of blue and brown peeking through—creating a flowing, organic effect reminiscent of water or wind-swept stone.
In fantastic vintage condition with no cracks, chips, or repairs. Minor signs of age include light paint loss, crazing, discoloration, and surface wear, all consistent with its age and use. Please refer to photos for full details.
A stunning statement piece for collectors of Japanese ceramics, mid-century interiors, or anyone drawn to the fusion of texture and glaze.
