Original 1962 linoleum cut engraving (linocut) after and approved by Pablo Picasso from "Picasso Linoleum Cuts Bacchanals, Women, Bulls and … Read more Original 1962 linoleum cut engraving (linocut) after and approved by Pablo Picasso from "Picasso Linoleum Cuts Bacchanals, Women, Bulls and Bullfighters", published by Harry N. Abrams, the American edition of "Picasso Linogravures" published by Editions Cercle D'Art. The linocuts were first issued in signed editions of fifty by Galerie Louise Leiris and printed by Arnéra in 1959 and 1960. Picasso developed a new method for creating engravings by progressively cutting and printing from a single block. This technique required the artist to be able to visualize the completed image at an early stage and made it impossible to reproduce the print from the block. Therefore, in collaboration with Picasso and Galerie Louis Leiris, new linoleum blocks were made at 42% of the original size by he famous German printer Gerd Hatje, and it was from these linoleum blocks that the 1962 prints were made. The colophon pages are shown for authentication and reference purposes and are not included. Sheet size: 12-1/2 x 14-7/8 inches; print size: 10-1/2 x 12-3/4 inches.

It is important to note that later editions of this work, published in 1988 and 2020, are offset lithographs without any impression marks, printed with lesser quality inks, on inferior paper resulting in reduced quality that are simply not linocut prints, merely reproductions thereof. This is a genuine 1962 linocut, printed on thick engraving paper with heavy ink layers, resulting in a tactile and visible impression.
