61485 Antique Persian Heriz Rug, 08'10 x 11'08.
A triumph of geometry and grandeur, this hand knotted wool antique Persian Heriz rug from the early 20th century embodies the bold elegance for which the region is celebrated. At its heart lies a commanding octofoil medallion, radiating with serrated edges and adorned with stylized floral rosettes and branching tendrils. This centerpiece, rendered in jewel-like shades of crimson, ivory, and slate blue, asserts its presence with aristocratic poise, anchoring the entire composition in timeless symmetry.
The red field surrounding the medallion pulses with energy, alive with a constellation of geometric blossoms, angular leaves, and tribal abstractions that suggest both vitality and permanence. Each esoteric motif carries the symbolic weight of protection, fertility, and endurance, evoking the ancient vocabulary of Persian tribal design. Contrasting beautifully, the ivory corner spandrels soften the field with their luminous ground, upon which serrated palmettes, stylized boteh, and curling vinery unfold in rhythmic harmony. Together, they heighten the sense of grandeur, as though the rug itself frames a sacred architectural garden.
Encasing this magnificent field is the celebrated Samovar turtle vine scroll border—a procession of stylized “turtle” palmettes linked by intertwining vinery, an emblem of longevity and unbroken cycles. Flanking this monumental frame are inner and outer carnation meander guard bands, their sinuous blossoms weaving a secondary rhythm of life and continuity. The borders balance boldness with refinement, reinforcing the Heriz reputation for both strength and sophistication in design.
This Heriz rug is more than a textile; it is a cultural heirloom. Woven by artisans whose craft distilled both tribal vitality and urban grandeur, it stands as a testament to the enduring prestige of Persian weaving. Its monumental scale, architectural presence, and symbolic motifs render it a collector’s masterpiece—an opulent statement of heritage destined for interiors of distinction.
