Also known as Curule or Campaign chairs, these iconic seats trace their lineage to the ancient Roman sella curulis - the folding chair of magistrates that symbolized political authority. Originally from Etruscan civilization, the distinctive X-shaped form served as a powerful status indicator throughout the Roman Republic. The "Savonarola" name derives from a 15th-century chair in the convent of San Marco, Florence, used by Dominican priest Girolamo Savonarola.

Each chair features the classical X-form frame masterfully handcrafted in hand-forged wrought iron with rich dark patina. The cyma-curved legs intersect at central pivot points with decorative rosettes. Beautiful turned finials crown each upright, with ball feet grounding the frame. Stretcher bars provide additional stability. Seats and backrests are upholstered in warm cognac/terra cotta woven textile.

Excellent vintage condition with natural patina expected of mid-century ironwork. Upholstery intact and well-preserved. The most recent owner purchased the set from de Tongue, Paris, 1997 - a dealer known for exceptional Continental antiques.
