It was likely produced in the mid-to-late 20th century and reflects Kutani’s long tradition of decorative porcelain with hand-painted details and sculptural figural elements. The vessel is formed as a stylized boat and features a seated robed, bearded older man at one end, along with decorative rail and architectural-style details along the top edge. The exterior is finished in classic blue and white decoration including wave motifs, dot patterning, and stylized border designs. The interior basin includes an additional hand-painted botanical motif, which adds a nice hidden decorative detail when the piece is in use or on display. The glazed interior basin is suitable for water use, consistent with traditional Ikebana vessel construction. There is no visible drainage hole, making it ideal for Ikebana, drop-in plants, or decorative display rather than direct soil planting.
