This rare Art Deco floor lamp from the 1930s is a striking example of the modernist spirit that defined the era. Its composition is beautifully balanced - a perfect harmony of form, material, and function.
The base features a sculptural wooden cabinet with three doors: one larger door at the back, and two smaller on the sides that open into the same storage compartment, allowing access from both directions. In the central section, a curved lower shelf is elegantly divided into two semicircular parts by the wooden support rod that carries the lamp’s stainless steel arm. This subtle division adds rhythm to the design while maintaining the symmetry that gives the piece its calm, architectural presence.
The entire wooden structure is finished in a beautiful walnut veneer, its warm tones and refined grain showcasing the craftsmanship of the period. Rising from the wooden support, a curved stainless steel element effortlessly holds the spherical milk glass lampshade - a graceful form that seems to float in space. The lampshade appears almost weightless, perfectly embodying the era’s fascination with modernity and lightness.
The on/off switch is discreetly located on the wooden support, allowing easy access without interrupting the lamp’s clean lines.
This piece is a fine representation of the modern approach to furniture design of its time - combining balanced proportions, honest materials, and functional elegance. Whether placed beside a reading chair, in the middle of a living room, or next to a sofa, it remains as practical and refined as ever.
This lamp was traditionally paired with a comfortable armchair for avid readers. The shelves were convenient for keeping everything one might need while at rest: a book or two, a pipe, a glass of whisky or wine, perhaps also the reading glasses. These lamps became small oases of calm in their owners’ apartments.
After nearly 90 years since produced, this lamp continues to serve as a timeless companion for anyone who enjoys reading - or simply living - in style.
The lamp is in good vintage condition, with only minor wear on the steel and wooden surfaces consistent with its age. The wooden parts have been partly refurbished, carefully preserving their authentic character. It has been rewired with a new European plug and on/off switch, and is fully functional.
