**Le Bon Genre, Planche No. 100: "Mounito" by Lanté — Early 19th Century Watercolor on Paper**
A charming and character-rich original watercolor illustration from the celebrated *Le Bon Genre* series, this early 19th-century drawing, titled *Mounito*, captures the whimsical elegance of Parisian society through the deft and theatrical hand of Louis-Marie Lanté (French, 1789–1871). Composed with delicate ink outlines and washes of muted rose, indigo, umber, and sky-blue, the scene unfolds with a group of five fashionably dressed figures gathered around a harpist, whose performance seems to gently arrest the attention of both adult and child alike. On the right, a couple converses animatedly, gesturing in animated response to the unfolding entertainment, while the figures to the left—woman, child, and musician—are rendered with a sensitive attention to costume and posture that captures both narrative and sartorial nuance.
Part of *Le Bon Genre*, a seminal compendium of Parisian fashion, leisure, and theatricality first issued in the early 1800s, the image reflects both satirical charm and anthropological detail. It exemplifies Lanté’s signature ability to convey the elegance of the Restoration period’s bourgeoisie, offering a vignette that is at once socially observant and lighthearted. The sheet is archivally presented within its original French giltwood beaded frame and retains the original titled mat, inscribed *Planche No. 100* above and *Mounito par Lanté* below, anchoring the work in its historical publishing context.
