Original engraving from the New Universal Atlas published by Mitchell in 1849. This was the last edition prior to selling the plates and rights to the atlas to Thomas Cowperthwait in 1850.
Map features vivid pastels illustrating the Ural Mountains and the Caspian Sea eastward as far as Siberia, Kamtschatka and Japan. Extends south to include Korea, Mongolia, and much of northern China. The lower left inset map details the region between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea, or as it is generally known, the Caucuses. Political and topographical features are noted and color coded with elevation rendered by hachure. Dimensions: 16 x 12 1/2"
