A creation of the artisanal glass workshops founded in 1921 by André Delatte (1887-1953), this vase is characteristic of his production and his specialty: a multi-layered, acid-etched glass vase with an Art Deco shape.
Unlike his contemporaries such as Gallé or the École de Nancy movement, he perfected the creation of vases with a more refined and abstract appearance, rather than the floral and organic decorations of the Art Deco period. This is what set him apart and made him successful.
This vase also tells the story of an entrepreneur with a love for glass and the challenges he faced: the 1930s were marked by several successive crises that undermined André Delatte's glassmaking company. Although its success was rapid and dazzling, accusations of plagiarism by Daum glassworks (which turned out to be false), as well as the outbreak of World War II, put a definitive halt to its production.
In very good overall condition, a slight chip can be noted on the edge of the vase's neck. This is nonetheless a rare piece, as this size is less common among André Delatte's productions.
