Composed of folded prismatic glass diffusers and a black enameled steel base, the lamp’s sculptural form evokes both structure and movement — its name a reference to the butterfly (“papillona”) in flight. The folded diffuser panels, pleated like architectural wings, soften and scatter the light with graphic precision. This particular model is a rare two-tone variation, combining warm amber and translucent white glass diffusers — a composition that enhances contrast, depth, and light distribution. Designed with both function and atmosphere in mind, the lamp produces an upward and lateral glow, while the angled diffusers modulate brightness with clarity and restraint. As with many works by the scarpas, the papillona reflects a broader ethos of less but better — a commitment to pared-back form, and expressive balance.
