This elegant and foldable kimono stand (ikō) is crafted from black lacquered wood and richly adorned with gold-painted motifs.
Dimensions: height 122 cm, width 130 cm, depth 5 cm.
The slender, gently curved ends give the piece a graceful silhouette that immediately evokes refined Japanese aesthetics.
The lower panels are decorated with golden paintings of blossoming plum branches beneath a full moon, set against a glossy black ground. Along the uprights and crossbars runs a delicate pattern of golden floral vines and blossoms, lending the whole a richly harmonious character.
The original metal hinges remain intact, showing a beautiful patina consistent with age. Minor traces of wear can be seen at the ends, but overall the piece is in good and stable condition.
Originally designed for presenting kimono, this stand also serves today as a versatile and stylish piece. It can be used to display kimono, textiles, scarves, or simply as a decorative object within a wabi-sabi–inspired interior.
