This exceptional handwoven runner kilim from Sivas, Central Anatolia, dates to the 1960s and showcases the timeless artistry of Turkish flatweaves. Measuring approximately 5 ft 1 in x 19 ft 4 in (61 x 232 inches), it is an unusually long piece — woven with natural wool on cotton using traditional flat weave techniques. The striking black ground, enriched with bold geometric motifs in crimson, saffron, ivory, and indigo, embodies Anatolia’s tribal visual heritage. Chest-stored and never used, it remains in excellent vintage condition, preserving its authentic texture and deep natural colors. Perfect for grand hallways or gallery-like interiors, this rare Anatolian runner brings both cultural depth and sculptural presence to any setting.
Color Palette & Design Details:
Dominant colors include black, terracotta red, saffron orange, ivory, and muted indigo. The repeating diamond medallions represent protection and unity — classic symbols in Central Anatolian tribal weavings. Fine wool fibers give this kilim a soft, authentic texture and subtle sheen. What Is a Handwoven Kilim?
A handwoven kilim is a traditional flatweave textile made on wooden looms using interlacing warps and wefts. In Anatolia, kilims have served for centuries not only as floor coverings but also as expressions of identity and symbolism. Each region — like Sivas in Central Anatolia — carries distinct motifs, dyes, and techniques. This 1960s kilim reflects a generation of artisans who wove for personal dowries, blending geometric precision with spiritual intent. Today, such pieces are admired as both decorative and cultural art forms, connecting modern interiors to the timeless rhythm of Turkish craftsmanship.
