Here is a vintage Korean soban, a traditional small tray table historically used for individual dining. These tables are known for their portable scale and elegant lacquered finishes, and this example features a classic red interior contrasted with a deep black exterior.
The form is particularly appealing, with gently curved edges and sculptural cutout legs that give it a light, architectural presence. I especially love the contrast of the rich red lacquer against the dark frame and the clean, graphic lines of the base.
I am currently obsessed—along with much of the design world—with Korean design and dining traditions, and I love that pieces like this have found new life well beyond their original use. It works beautifully as a low table for tea or casual dining, but also as a decorative pedestal- perfect for displaying a treasured object or a curated vignette.
