Bold and beautiful 1960s abstract expressionist oil painting. This painting is consistent with other works of Montani's from this period, featuring rich colors and a strong focus on movement and materiality. The lines of the painting suggest something bursting from the center. The heavy use of black is complemented by the thickly laid areas of white, which carry a strong sense of light. The interaction between the darks and lights is then mediated by the cerulean blue, red, and sienna tones. Some areas have thin layers of paint where the original canvas texture is still visible. Other areas feature highly textured paint where colors can be seen blending together. All this comes together to create a dynamic and intriguing piece.

Andres Montani was born in Minas, Uruguay in 1908. He began painting in 1938 with no formal training. In 1948 he began exhibiting with the Salón Nacional de Bellas Artes in Argentina. In the following decades he continued to exhibit in salons and galleries in Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Columbia, Spain, and the U.S.A. In 1953, Montani joined the Plástico Taller El Molino group in 1953 and began exhibiting with them as well. He received numerous awards at these shows, including a bronze medal at the Salón Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1951, a special mention at the Salon de Otoño de Artistas Plásticos del Interior, and 3rd place at the first Salón de Pintura de la Casa de la ciudad de Minas.
