Little Girl with a Lamb, oil on panel, 19th century, France
This delightful painting depicts a little girl on a farm. She is barefoot, wearing a blue petticoat and a light white shirt. In her arms, a white lamb seems to be giving her full attention. The farm to her right, with its open door and a bench in front, suggests a certain well-being. A hen and her chicks enliven the rural scene. In the background, a blue sky discreetly reveals a building.
This painting celebrates the world of the countryside. Innocence and freedom are represented by the child, the lamb, and the free-range poultry.
Beautiful poetry for this refined and candid painting.
