Hyper realistic still life by Alexis Pencovic (American, 1921-1987). A still life arrangement of blackberries with leaves and blossoms is shown in a white and blue pitcher. This piece is beautifully executed in a trope l'oeil style, with realistic lighting and textures.

Alexis Pencovic was born in Oregon on March 8, 1921. Pencovic spent most of his life in San Francisco until his death on June 9, 1987. He was an artist, illustrator, and president of the Bay Area Conservation Guild.

Pencovic began his studies with Angeline Stansbury in Chico, and later attended the California School of Fine Arts, where he won two Albert Bender scholarships. He served in the army for three years, and then attended the American School of Berlin, the Academy of Art (San Francisco) and the de Young Art Museum School. Later in life, Pencovic was named chief conservator of the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
