This exquisite Louis XV-style bergère armchair is a stunning example of Rococo Revival craftsmanship, believed to be a late 1800s reproduction from the Victorian era.
This piece features a hand-carved wooden frame with intricate floral and scroll motifs along the crest rail, arms, and cabriole legs. The barrel-back silhouette and curved armrests offer both comfort and elegance. While the fabric shows authentic wear—including fraying and fading—the structure remains sound, and the patina adds undeniable charm.
Historical Note:
During the late 19th century, French-inspired furniture saw a resurgence in popularity across Europe and the U.S. The Rococo Revival movement embraced ornate carving, romantic silhouettes, and luxurious fabrics—hallmarks of this chair’s design.
This chair has been in our family since the early 1980s, acquired from a rare estate sale hosted in Wisconsin by a wealthy collector with a vast trove of authentic antiques and exquisite turn of the century reproductions. It has served as a cherished accent in our home for decades, admired for its craftsmanship and historical charm. While in our possession it has remained unaltered and we do not believe it has been altered or modified since its production.
