Early 20th Century Original Still Life Oil Painting Titled "Fish and Brass" in Style of William Merritt Chase
Moody and atmospheric, this still life painting by unknown artist. Titled "Fish and Brass." Minimalistic and effective in its austere composition, the picture features a brass oil jug and a plate of two fish on a brass plate on a table. The still life painting harkens back to quieter time and the promise of a simple supper of just caught freshwater fish. The reflections of the kitchen interior on the brass jug show the painters mastery of brushwork and diffused light. The somber palette is similar to William Merritt Chase's still lifes of his early Munich period and the seventeenth-century Spanish School of still life paintings known for their simplicity and austere naturalism.

Condition: Professionally restore; relined with two minor repairs. Protective foam core with mylar covered window to show relined canvas.
