Moody rural Hudson River School style painting of Upstate New York by Frances B. Clark (Canadian/American, 1835 - 1916), circa 1880. Farm scene with haystacks and cows crazing in pasture land at base of verdant hills. Split rail fence in foreground gives structure and interest to the composition. Artist's technical skills are showcased with billowy clouds highlighted with sun deepening to gray skies with sheets of rain falling on hills. Trees and rolling hillside add to the pleasing and balanced composition of the painting. Frances Reeves Clark a Quebec, Canadian born artist of landscapes and portraits, who lived and painted in upstate New York. She was the wife of Frank Reeves a Curator of Fine Art at a major museum. We show a digital copy of a self portrait of the artist, not included.
