Vast, billowing … Read more Two riders advance across an open plain beneath a sky transformed into a stage of fire and shadow. Vast, billowing clouds in brilliant orange and gold dominate the scene, their incandescent drama set against a deepening blue twilight. Below, the land glows with the same warm light, a golden field stretching toward the horizon where distant houses rest quietly at the edge of shadow. In contrast to the sky’s turbulence, the figures on horseback move steadily and calmly, their dark forms anchoring the composition. The juxtaposition between the monumental cloudscape and the quiet human presence turns the scene into a meditation on scale where the immensity of nature confronts the quiet persistence of human life.

As the artist, I've always been influenced by the work of the classics; da Vinci, Sargent, Mucha, and Waterhouse to name a few. Recently, in my pursuit of challenge, I've looked back on western art that I would look at in magazines. Painting clouds has always been an undertaking, and a challenge never taken... until now. As part of my artistic process, I try and work uncomfortably to learn and grow. This piece is the result. See less
