A richly detailed 18th-century Italian or French Renaissance Revival strongbox or coffer, masterfully crafted in solid oak with contrasting marquetry and decorative inlay. This architectural chest features a hinged rectangular lid with molded edges, opening to a deep interior well fitted with an internal drawer secured by a hidden iron lock mechanism and accompanied by an original key. The exterior presents an elaborate façade with paired arched panels framed by pilasters, floral carvings, and turned ornaments in high relief.

The front frieze is decorated with scrolling foliate inlay in contrasting wood, suggestive of Italian intarsia or French neo-Renaissance design. Below are two lockable frieze drawers with checkerboard inlay and brass ring pulls, flanked by expressive carved lion and grotesque masks in full relief. The sides are paneled and fitted with wrought iron drop handles, and the chest rests on classic turned bun feet.
