* erwin heerich (* november 29, 1922 in kassel; † november 6, 2004 in meerbusch-osterath) was a german artist. From 1945 to 1950, he attended the düsseldorf state art academy in the sculpture class of ewald mataré. From 1950 to 1954, he held the master student studio there together with joseph beuys. In 1957, he became mataré's assistant at oskar kokoschka's summer academy in salzburg. From 1959 onward, he created cardboard sculptures and drawings, prints, and graphics in the free range of isometric principles. In 1961, he was appointed a teacher at the seminar for work-active education in düsseldorf. In 1968, heerich participated in the 4th documenta in kassel with ten cardboard sculptures. In 1969, he was appointed to the düsseldorf art academy, where he remained a professor until his retirement in 1988. From 1974, heerich was a member of the berlin academy of arts. In 1978, he received the will grohmann prize in berlin for his work. In 1980, he began planning the buildings on the museum island in hombroich near neuss and also created numerous sculptural works in public spaces. In 1987, he received the max beckmann prize from the city of frankfurt am main.
