The engraving shows her in a magnificent heraldic gown combining the arms of Auvergne and Bourbon. On the left panel of the dress, the fleur-de-lis of France, denoting her high noble connections, while the right side displays a silver dolphin on a red field, symbolizing her Auvergne heritage. These coats of arms are dramatically integrated into the costume design, emphasizing both dynastic prestige and marital alliance. Anne’s attire exemplifies the symbolic and political function of women’s dress in late 14th-century French courts. Heraldic gowns such as this were worn at ceremonial occasions to visually proclaim family alliances and noble identity. She is shown with a jeweled circlet, a sign of her status as Dauphine, and long trailing sleeves, adding to the grandeur of her appearance. This engraving belongs to the celebrated *Galerie Française de Femmes Célèbres* series, first issued in Paris in 1827 with designs by Louis-Marie Lanté and engraving by Georges Jacques Gatine. The present impression, however, comes from the ca. 1900 reissue, when the original plates were reprinted and again delicately hand-colored for collectors and historians. Condition report: Very good. Strong and bright hand-coloring, particularly in the heraldic blues and reds, with clean paper and wide margins. Very minor age toning at the edges, blank verso. Framing tips: The heraldic blue and red tones can be highlighted with a double mat—cream outer with a thin red or blue inner border. A gilt frame will enhance the regal quality, while a dark wood frame provides a more scholarly, historic presentation. Technique: Hand-colored engraving (later impression, ca. 1900) Maker: After Louis-Marie Lanté (artist) and Georges Jacques Gatine (engraver), Paris, 1827 See less
