exquisite small bureau à pente made in france during the napoleon iii era, mid-19th century. It features extraordinary, well-crafted marquetry; different woods are used for the ornamentation, both polygonal and delicate floral. This is achieved through the combination of veneers of different shades (rosewood, violet wood, and rosewood). This lightweight desk stands on four galvanized legs, the two front ones with sablots. Its mixed-profile front features a drawer with two handles and a fold-down writing tray, the desk itself, in embossed maroon leather. This discreet fold-down service front houses two small drawers and more compartments. All fittings, including the handles, are gilt bronze and then chiseled. Lightweight, practical, and versatile furniture.
