Pompeian Red Coat Stand by Ferdinando Meccani for Meccani Arredamenti, 1976.
Coat stand made of open-pore oak varnished Pompeian red with a dark wood edge, composed of three shaped elements measuring approximately 24 x 152 cm in height, which can be folded into various positions thanks to cylindrical hinges.
The coat stand can be configured in multiple ways, in addition to the classic star-shaped configuration with three panels.
The coat stand was born from an idea by Ferdinando Meccani in 1976 while playing with his 9-year-old son and cutting out scrapbook pages like an accordion. from a children's game, he invented a flexible household object with infinite possibilities for shapes, easily placed in any decor and foldable, making it easy to transport.
The prototype was created in the 1970s. This coat stand, with the Meccani company logo in copper and the designer's signature dated 1987, is a prototype that was never put into production.
