This charming vintage oil painting by Claude Dumont, dating to the 1970’s, captures the timeless elegance of Parisian street life. The scene depicts a bustling boulevard near the Eiffel Tower, where figures in period attire stroll beneath glowing lampposts and a softly lit evening sky. A newsstand and surrounding architecture are rendered with expressive brushstrokes, while reflections on the wet street add a romantic, atmospheric quality.
Executed in oil on canvas, Dumont’s work conveys a nostalgic impressionist style that blends movement, light, and urban charm. The painting is signed Dumont at the lower left and remains housed in its original gilt wood frame with linen liner, enhancing its vintage appeal.
Claude Dumont was born in 1938 in Metz France. He spent his childhood in the Meuse area and his parents enrolled him at the national college to become an industrial designer.
At the age of 15, he had to stop his studies as he was in the first stage of tuberculosis and he is cared for for 2 years at Villiers Cotterets. There, he met some Parisians and asked his parents to enroll him at the fashion design school in Paris at Ms Bazot.
At the age of 19 he completed his military service in Algeria in 28 months, amongst the red hat parachutes.
Upon his return, he worked in different fashion establishments: Daniel Hechter, Balaciaga and for magazines such as “Tout Savoir” and “Guerir”.
