This miniature tea cup and saucer by Carl Thieme of Dresden is a lovely late 19th century example of fine German porcelain. The quatrefoil-shaped cup and saucer are decorated in a cheerful yellow ground with hand-painted courting couple scenes, framed by delicate gilt accents.
Cup: 1-1/4" high x 1-3/4" diameter
Saucer: 3" diameter (deep style)
Both pieces are marked with Thieme’s Dresden mark on the reverse, confirming its origin. The set is in good antique condition, with no chips or cracks. Light wear is consistent with age and gentle handling. Some paint imperfections under the glaze are typical of hand-painted porcelain from this era.
Smaller than a demitasse cup, these miniature cups were often given as “friendship gifts” or tokens of remembrance in the 1800s—a tradition that still continues today. Highly collectible, this piece is ideal for display in a cabinet, as part of a miniature collection, or as a thoughtful gift.
