This rare 18-piece dinner service was designed by Jean Picart Le Doux (1902–1982), one of France’s most celebrated mid-century decorative artists, and commissioned by Air France for use in its Premier Cabin Service and Presidential Flights.
Produced by C.I.M. Porcelaine, these are among the earliest porcelain sets associated with the legendary Concorde supersonic jet, where tableware dimensions and forms were specially conceived to withstand the unique conditions of flight.
“The dinner plates and bowls are decorated with Air France’s iconic hippocampe ailé (winged seahorse) logo, integrated into Jean Picart Le Doux’s distinctive graphic phoenix/dragon motif in deep cobalt and gold, forming a modern porcelain service that reflects both the artist’s bold style and the airline’s emblematic identity.” The bold radial teardrop pattern and heraldic imagery are instantly recognizable as signatures of the artist’s style, where modernist geometry meets expressive French design.
Set composition & sizes:
• 6 dinner plates (~19 cm / 7.5”)
• 6 soup plates (~17.5 cm / 6.9”)
• 6 bowls (~13 cm / 5.1”)
Marked beneath: “Décor de Jean Picart Le Doux – Réalisé pour Air France – C.I.M. Porcelaine”.
More than airline tableware, this set represents a rare fusion of design, innovation, and aviation history: functional porcelain refined for high-altitude dining, yet executed with the artistry of one of France’s great mid-century masters.
A museum-quality service at the intersection of mid-century modern design, French decorative arts, and Concorde aviation heritage.
