This piece was a barn rescue from Gallipolis, Ohio and it was believed to once serve as a mercantile desk … Read more This piece was a barn rescue from Gallipolis, Ohio and it was believed to once serve as a mercantile desk in the French settlement. We used it in our antique/vintage store as a wrapping table and to store various items. We did not alter it in any way except to clean it. It has a slight sag in the middle, the drawers have to be lifted when pushed in for them to settle properly and we used a spring rod to hang a curtain in the front to hide cleaning supplies underneath. There are so many details, so many imperfections that give you the impression that it was often used and well-loved and maybe the cleaning and oiling maintenance was delayed because they were busy. We did clean it very well (It was covered in a lot of dirt when we received it) and it suited our retail store as-is. If you want a show piece for a formal environment, this isn't it. But if you want a piece of furniture that tells a story from every side and detail that fits well in a farmhouse setting, this was made for that. less
