A mid-century modern double-sided desk, crafted in Sweden at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s by Svenska Möbelfabrikerna Bodafors … Read more A mid-century modern double-sided desk, crafted in Sweden at the turn of the 1950s and 1960s by Svenska Möbelfabrikerna Bodafors (SMB) – one of the most renowned and respected Swedish furniture manufacturers of the period. The original maker’s mark – the characteristic “man with outstretched arms” logo alongside the inscription “Made in Sweden” – has been preserved on the underside, confirming its provenance.
The desk is veneered in beautifully grained teak, with a balanced and minimalist silhouette. The rectangular legs taper subtly towards the floor, emphasizing the lightness and stability of the piece, typical of Swedish modernist design. Being double-sided, it features a central drawer and two spacious cabinets with additional inner drawers at the front, while the reverse side is elegantly veneered, allowing the desk to be placed freely in the room, not only against the wall.
In the process of restoration carried out in our workshop RMP – Robimy Meble Pracownia, the desk was carefully stripped of its old finishes, the teak veneer was nourished and treated with a hardwax oil that highlights its natural colour and grain, and the entire construction was checked and stabilized. As a result, the piece is now ready for everyday use as well as for display in an interior.
