Standing with … Read more Excellent ceramic figurine with rare decotation of the 1930s: the sculpture depicts a dancer in a butterfly costume. Standing with her arms raised and her head tilted to one side, she performs a slight twisting movement. The translucent costume and the fabric falling from the sleeves are reminiscent of butterfly wings, decorated in shades of light grey and pink. On a beige, slightly domed and stepped round base with grey shading on the sides, signature 'lorenzl' on the left wing tip at the bottom rear. Designed by josef lorenzl (1892 - 1950), who was an austrian sculptor and ceramic modeler. His bronze statuettes often show graceful dancers with long legs and closed eyes. Lorenzl designed numerous ceramics for friedrich goldscheider and keramos and was one of the most popular artists of art deco.
