Antique Ningxia Chinese Medallion Beige 1775 Hallway Runner Rug, Circa Date: 1775. This exquisite example of 18th-century weaving hails from the Ningxia region of China, renowned for its restrained elegance and sophisticated use of negative space. Its long and narrow format makes it a perfect choice for those seeking hallway runner rugs.

The palette is strikingly minimalist, relying primarily on a rich, saturated indigo blue set against a subtly variegated field of natural hues. This careful selection of colors emphasizes the clarity of the design, a hallmark of the best Qing Dynasty textiles. The aged patina of the field has developed a warm, honeyed tone, characteristic of fine ivory beige cream weavings.

The central design features three distinct, circular medallions filled with intricate, stylized cloud-band motifs (T'ao T'ieh elements). These are interspersed with smaller, repeating geometric and stylized floral forms. The composition is highly formal yet dynamic, reflecting the scholarly taste prevalent during the mid-Qing era.

Dating precisely to 1775, this piece represents a rare survival from the Qianlong period, a golden age for Chinese textile arts. Its excellent preservation and classic design make it a significant collectible item, appealing to discerning collectors of fine antique rugs. See less
