This listing is for an Antique 1888 Rookwood Pottery Plate, Edward Cranch, Uncle Remus Plantation Tales as pictured.
This plate is from the Rookwood Pottery Company, dating to 1888. The design and inscription reference “Uncle Remus Plantation Tales,” which were stories written by Joel Chandler Harris in the late 19th century, based on African American folktales from the Southern U.S. The image and text depict a scene from the Br’er Rabbit tales, which were widely popular in American folklore. It is signed "EPC" - Edward Pope Cranch (1802-1892). The plate is marked on the back with the original Rookwood symbol and "87" (representing the shape per the "The Book of Rookwood Pottery") and "G" (representing the color 'ginger').
