Bold and functional, this vintage hand-carved sign once directed travelers to restrooms and telephones, making it a nostalgic piece of Americana from the mid-20th century.
Carved from solid wood, the lettering and arrows are deeply incised and hand-painted in red and blue against a textured white ground, all framed by a green painted border. The bold red block letters and arrows pop with graphic clarity, while the subtle wear and surface irregularities give it the warm character of a true roadside or public-space artifact.
Measuring approximately 30" wide × 11" high, the sign has a substantial presence. The back is painted plain white, suggesting it was mounted flush against a wall. The slightly rounded corners and hand-chiseled lettering point to the craftsmanship of a regional sign maker, and the original mounting holes remain visible.
Condition: Excellent vintage character with minor wear, paint loss, and small nail holes consistent with age and use. Structurally solid and ready to hang.
Why we love it: With its bold typography and carved relief, this sign makes a great statement piece for a gallery wall, man cave, or commercial space. It’s equally appealing to collectors of vintage signage, roadside Americana, and mid-century graphic design.
