An impressive Japanese Meiji period four-panel folding screen (Byōbu), dating to the 19th century. The screen depicts lush chrysanthemums in white and deep red alongside morning glories in blue, set within a landscape of stylized rocks and fencing. The flowers rise against a luminous gilt paper ground, giving depth and radiance to the composition.
The frame is finished with silk brocade borders and fitted with engraved metal hardware bearing floral designs, both elements consistent with traditional Meiji decorative arts.
Measuring 67.5″ high by 98″ wide, this folding screen offers both scale and refinement, suitable for display as wall art or as a room divider.
