Martin Zipin studied at Temple University's Tyler School of Art (1937-1942), where he received his Masters in Fine Art, as well as at the Philadelphia Graphic Sketch Club (now the Fleisher School), of which he was a member. He later studied under several artists including Maxim Gottlieb and Earl Horter. Over the course of a long career, Zipin exhibited widely and with success and was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards, including the Graphic Sketch Club Prize, (1936) and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts (1938, 1948). Additionally, he received the Emily Lowe Oil Painting Award and awards from the Woodmere Gallery and the Tyler Alumni association. For more than forty years, he was also a revered teacher at the Baum School of Art where he served as chairman of the art department. Martin Zipkin is well-listed in artist biographical works, including Who Was Who in American Art. His work is held in numerous private and public collections including the permanent collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Allentown Art Museum, the Woodmere Gallery, Temple University, Lehigh University, the University of Virginia, among others.
