Vintage 1980s Chinese Silk Dragon & Phoenix Carpet ( 6' x 8' - 183 x 245 )
Vintage Silk Hallway Runner Wool Navy Rug, Circa Date: 1980s. This striking Chinese-style runner features a deep, saturated navy field, providing a dramatic backdrop for the intricate silk detailing. The rich indigo hue places it among the most desirable navy color rugs available from the late 20th century, offering both depth and elegance to any interior setting.
The field is masterfully adorned with classical Chinese iconography: a powerful, stylized dragon and a graceful phoenix, rendered in shimmering gold and pale tan silk. These opposing yet complementary mythical creatures symbolize balance, prosperity, and harmony, executed with a precision that highlights the luxurious sheen of the silk pile against the dense wool foundation.
A broad, contrasting border frames the central design, featuring repeating Shou symbols—representing longevity and good fortune—in dark blue against a distressed gold ground. While produced in the 1980s, the design draws heavily upon the Art Deco Chinese styles of the 1920s, making it a sophisticated addition to our collection of vintage area rugs.
The combination of durable wool and lustrous silk creates a tactile experience and a visual depth that shifts subtly with the light. Its elongated dimensions make it ideally suited for transitional spaces, providing a refined aesthetic solution among high-quality hallway runner rugs designed to elevate long corridors or entryways.
