A finely modelled Gothic Revival relief jug by W. Ridgway & Son, dating to circa 1840. The body is richly decorated in high relief with a dynamic equestrian jousting scene, framed by Gothic arches and surmounted by a frieze of grapevines and foliage.
The handle is elaborately scrolled with foliate details, while the spout is fitted with its original pewter mount, adding both contrast and rarity to the design. The jug is moulded in a soft jade-green earthenware, its sculptural quality highlighted by crisp modelling and subtle patination.
