William Hogarth (after)
Dr. Benjamin Hoadly
Lord Bishop of Winchester
Etching
63 x 48 cm
Etching after the original painting (1743) of William Hogarth, it represents the portray of the famous Lord Bishop of Winchester, Dr. Benjamin Hoadly (1676-1761). He was a close friend and also the
protector of the artist. Here, he is sitting in a noble chair and he's wearing lavish clothes with the Order of Garter's insignia, which was the highest and most ancient order of the Knights. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
