A handsome late-20th-century cachepot by John Richard, designed in the French Neoclassical taste. The bowed rectangular body is finished in deep black with hand-painted gilt and olive-green foliage, framed by softly aged gold borders.
Cast lion-head mounts with brass ring handles embellish the sides, while sculptural paw feet elevate the vessel from the surface below. Its generous proportions are ideal for an orchid arrangement, seasonal branches, or a row of smaller planted pots; displayed empty, it has the presence of a decorative object in its own right.
