This is an antique, French, fireplace coal scuttle and bucket insert, Circa 1880’s—1920’s. The bucket could have not only served as a coal carrier, but also as a bucket for ashes or kindling, too. The coal scuttle is in unusually good shape—given its age and use! The bucket has a handle on top (to lift it out of the scuttle) and a handle on the bottom front (to pour the ashes or leftover coal out)—both are securely attached.
The hand-painted gold tole work is expertly done and contrasts beautifully against its black background. The spiraled, golden handles and the stunningly, ornate “feet” on the scuttle make this a charming and yet functional addition to any room—either as a trash bin, pet food container or next to a fireplace!
The weight of the coal scuttle and bucket insert is 14.7 lbs.

- The scuttle bucket is in wonderful condition, but while the insert bucket has two sound handles, there are many rusted … moreThe scuttle bucket is in wonderful condition, but while the insert bucket has two sound handles, there are many rusted scratches and one corner hole in the bottom that goes all the way through. I have oiled both buckets thoroughly, dry brushed any debris off and re-oiled again. I like my personal antiques to look used, but some others, may like them more “fixed up”—in that case, you could always spray paint the inner bucket with a rust repellent paint and primer (or I would be happy to do it for you!). All of the legs (feet) and handles are very secure, as is the lid. :) less
