This pair of artisanal wicker woven table lamps is modeled after the teepee, a shape that feels both sculptural and deeply symbolic.
Handwoven by Navajo (Diné) artisans, each lamp carries a lineage of craft rooted in tradition, but adapted into a modern, functional object.
The woven structure speaks to a heritage of textile artistry that has defined Navajo culture for centuries.
In Diné tradition, weaving itself is sacred, tied to mythological figures known as Spider Man and Spider Woman (not to be confused with the modern comic book characters).
According to Navajo belief, Spider Man provided the first loom, while Spider Woman taught the knowledge and skill of weaving.
Together, they symbolize the spiritual origin of the craft, and their story continues to guide the practice today.
Here, the artisans worked with natural rattan to create a lattice-like skin, airy and organic, wrapped around a conical frame.
When lit, the pattern casts a warm, dappled glow, with shadows that ripple across the walls like woven cloth. It’s atmospheric, textural, and quietly transportive.
The electrical components date to the 1970s, giving the lamps that retro authenticity while still being fully functional today.
Their scale makes them versatile, perfect on a credenza, bedside tables, or styled as statement pieces on a console.
They hold their own in a collected, global-inspired interior, and bring a touch of warmth to any minimal space.
