The Vion company was founded in Paris in 1830 and was an official supplier to the French navy. Vion compasses were often used on merchant ships and yachts. Due to their renowned quality, their instruments were also used on large cargo ships in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The brass housing was made by Kelvin Hughes Ltd.
Binnacles from this British company were often used in merchant and warships.

The compass, which functions perfectly, contains interior lighting for night-time use and iron balls (known as Kelvin correction) to counteract magnetic deviations.

The whole is in good old condition with dark patina, small dents, scratches. This piece has an attribution mark,
