Antique Peking Small Scatter Size Wool Beige Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This elegant Chinese weaving exemplifies the restrained aesthetic popular during the early Republican period. Its compact dimensions make it an ideal small scatter size accent piece, perfectly suited for a hallway, foyer, or bedside placement where space is at a premium.

The composition is defined by its striking use of negative space. A luminous, expansive field of soft tan wool dominates the center, providing a sophisticated backdrop that highlights the subtle variations in the natural dye. This preference for pale, neutral tones places it among the most desirable beige color rugs of the era, offering superb versatility for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

A finely articulated border in deep indigo frames the field, featuring stylized vine and gourd motifs that symbolize abundance and longevity, interspersed with traditional symbols of good fortune. The overall simplicity of the design, combined with the high-quality wool foundation, confirms its status as a highly collectible antique rug.

Woven with a thick, plush pile typical of the finest Peking workshops, this piece retains exceptional structural integrity and luxurious texture. It is a quiet testament to the refined artistry of early 20th-century Chinese textile production, successfully balancing traditional symbolism with a modern, minimalist sensibility. See less
