When found, it served as a bedside table with the fold top up as a backdrop. Now, imagine a new use for Bridge or Mah Jong… even extra dining space for family gatherings. It was discovered to have the original locking slides underneath so the top is supported in the fully open position. The top folds all the way to allow the table to be used as a side table or small console. The exposed top, when down, is banded. The front is nicely decorated with inlay and carved trim. The slight cabriole legs give the piece a delicate French look.
Under the table are also two folding legs which can give extra support when the table is fully extended. They fold and lock out of the way when not needed. One of the metal corner braces is marked “Walter of Wabash” which helped to date the table. They were a metal working company in the late 19th century which produced the slides for tables such as this.
